Borobudur stupa at sunrise
The world's largest Buddhist monument can be found close to Yogjakarta. The Borobudur was built more than thousand years ago, by the Sailendra dynasty in Central Java. "Rediscovered" in 1814 by the British and Dutch, thereafter plundered and abused for more than a hundred years, until the remains of the temple were "saved" in recent years.
